RETRIEVER TRAINING

At Pine Ridge British Labradors, we only take a few dogs in at a time to make sure they get all the attention they need.  We do not use force fetch techniques. We use British training methods which are much more rewarding for the dog. We do not use E collars! Our training is based on positive reinforcement. Our dogs are extremely willing to please, we use that to get the results we desire. Contact us for availability.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING

As a new puppy owner, you know the importance of obedience. Once the cuteness of the puppy stage starts to wear off and you realize its time to start making a gundog out of that bundle of joy, don’t worry we have you covered. We take young dogs in from 5 to 7 months of age for their beginning of obedience training. The obedience training module typically runs 2 to 3 months. Obedience is the foundation to every gundog. You cannot skip through obedience! All aspects of training build off of obedience training. We go above and beyond with our obedience as it is the key to a great gundog or companion.  We expose them to every situation possible. They will learn sit, stay, here, and heal. Also, how to load onto a dog stand/platform, ride on a four-wheeler/Ranger, on a boat. Load into a kennel/blind and they will get their beginning foundation of whistle commands.

*Any dog that comes to Pine Ridge Kennels must have a copy of their current vaccinations from their Vet, including Bordetella.t

STARTED RETRIEVER TRAINING

After your dog has been through our obedience training, we typically send them back home with you for a couple of months. During that period, it gives you and your gundog time to adjust to their new manners around your home. This also gives you time to continue obedience drills with them at home. When they come back for Started Retriever training, they will continue with their obedience training and learn more advanced obedience skills through out this training module. We will start off teaching your gundog how to run straight blinds. The reason for this is that; almost every gundog will retrieve something if thrown, however teaching them to retrieve when they haven’t seen anything thrown or fall can be quite a challenge! again this is a building block in their foundation to become a great gundog. Also, during this module, they will learn multiple marks on land and water, they will have their basics for blind retrieves and hand signals. Continue with whistle commands and be steady to the shot. This training module typically runs 2 to 3 months.

FINISHED RETRIEVER TRAINING

During this training module they will become proficient at all land and water marks, whistle commands, hand signals, and blind retrieves (out to approx. 300 yds). They will also be introduced to poision birds (distraction birds during retrieves). They will also continue training with being steady to the shot and obedience training. After this module is completed your gundog will be a finished gundog, only needing occasional drills by you. The Finished Retriever Training Module typically rubs 1 to 2 months.

SHED DOG TRAINING

We have been training shed dogs before it was even popular. We trained them for us and friends due to our passion of deer hunting. We continue to shed hunt every year picking up massive amounts of sheds. Not only is Shed hunting a great way to determine what bucks made it through the season and which ones are still visiting your farms, but it is also a great form of exercise for both you and your dog! I get the question all of the time “can my dog be a waterfowl dog and a shed dog both?” and my answer is always the same; come to my kennel and I’ll show you a kennel full of them! however the trick is we cant to it all at the same time. Now, shed dogs must have a lot of the same obedience as a waterfowl dog but the training is all together different once we get into the specific training. If you are wanting a waterfowl dog and a shed dog all together it just takes a little more time, we cannot mix the training together at the same time.

If your just specifically looking for a shed dog; we have had unbelievable success with our dogs becoming remarkable shed dogs. We have sold and trained dogs to some of the biggest outfitters.

Just like any other hunting dog shed dogs must go through obedience training, however if your dog is just going to hunt sheds then we can tailor the obedience training just for them. They will learn sit, stay, and heel. Will load up into trucks/four wheelers, ride on four wheelers/rangers. They will learn recall whistle commands. Shed Dog obedience training typically is 1 month. The complete Shed Dog training module is typically 2 to 3 months.

R.T. Module (Retriever Touchup):

The RT module is based around the off season of hunting, or before hunting season starts. This module was developed due to the amount of owners that needed just a touch up on their gun dog, but didn’t need a complete training module. The length of the module will depend on your goals for your dog, and will be set by individual clients needs. We also have had pet owners use this module for their pets that just needed a touch up on their obedience training. And, Shed Dog owners that needed a touch up before shed season. Again, this modules length is set by the owners and dog needs.

*Any dog that comes to Pine Ridge Kennels must have a copy of their current vaccinations from their Vet, including Bordetella.

Individual Classes:

We provide individual classes for those gundog and pet owners that are wanting to train their dog themselves, but occasionally need a little help. The owner and dog will both attend the class. Class length is set by need of the owner, but typically isn’t over two hours. Classes must be set by appointment.

*Any dog that comes to Pine Ridge Kennels must have a copy of their current vaccinations from their Vet, including Bordetella.
